Visit to Agra by Mehak and Sandra

6th october 2018:-

we visited Agra on 6th october 2018 with our German friends. It was a great and amazing experience. Although it was a hot day but the experience is unforgettable. We were at school early in the morning at 5 am and left for Agra around 9 in the morning and the first monument visited by us was the Taj Mahal. A magnificent building built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1653 for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. She was the most beautiful lady of India at that time. Shah Jahan loved her immensely. It was his unconditional love that he built the monument in the memory of his beloved wife. It took 20 years and 20,000 workers to complete this magnificent mausoleum. It is built with marble and many precious and semi- precious stones. This beautiful work is an example of the inley work. Both Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal have been buried here. Taj Mahal is famous for its perfect symmetrical work. It has four minarets which are not straight. This is done as a safety measure so that whenever there is an earthquake the minarets do not fall on the Taj Mahal.

Our next visit was to the Agra fort where we all were amazed to see the architecture. The fort is bestowed with beautiful grape gardens. However, only 20% of the fort is for tourists and the rest 80% is used by the Indian Army. There is a huge room of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal . It was beautifully decorated with paintings with gold , which are now stolen by the invaders. Near it is the room of their two beloved daughters. One can also see the area where Shah Jahan was imprisoned for 8 years during the war of succession by his own son Aurangzeb.
