Our first day of school at Bal Bharati School:
All German and Indian exchange students met punctually at 8 o’clock at the beginning of the lesson in the schoolyard. After congratulating Sandra on her birthday, we went to school where our teachers greeted us warmly. Then we ran together with our exchange partner in the large school hall, where we were traditionally received in Indian by all Indian students and teachers of the school. The teachers welcomed us and gave speeches about the exchange in general, but also about the physics project “Eagles meets tiger”. After seeing beautiful Indian dances with musical accompaniment from the school band, we met in the classroom and talked together about possible difficulties that can arise in the exchange, to avoid problems. Then we learned a new game called Kho-kho on the sports field, which is a special kind of “catcher”.
Our first real lesson was Hindi. In that lesson, we learned a few practical sentences to communicate in India. In Hindi followed dance lessons. That was very, very funny. It was great fun to dance to Indian music. Our viewers also found it amusing to watch us.
In art, which was our last lesson, we drew on traditional Indian art, which was not as easy as it sounds.
After school, many students met in the playground to chat, have fun and to rejoice that the school is over.
This was our first day of school at Bal Bharati School. We are all looking forward to the time that lies ahead.
