Excursion – fuel cells and biogas

On Tuesday 19th June 2018 we met at the Marienberg market place at 8 o’clock and went by bus to Olbernhau to WäTaS, a company that produces heat exchangers.

Mr. Kunze, an employee gave us an insight into the production and he explained
the structure of the fuel cell and the functioning of a heat exchanger to us.

The production area was very huge and we were able to see a lot of interesting machines, which  were used to make the heat exchangers.

From Olbernhau we went to Heinzebank in Marienberg and visited the biogas plant of Bauernland AG. Mr. Gräber, an employee of the company, showed us around the area and described the way  a biogas plant works.

Really impressive was the almost complete utilization of the feed of the cows and manure. More about this cycle can be found in this blog in an explicit report on the biogas plant.

By the way, we discovered that the smell of such a biogas plant is not as strict
as we had imagined.
At the end we were also allowed to look at the calves some of which were just born a few hours before.
